As his businesses notably Presidents Foods prospered he beganhis long commitment to philanthropic causes as he had come tobelieve in the importance of sharing the wealth he wasamassing. He made a substantial donation to the NGV buildingappeal thereby earning naming rights for a space in the newgallery erected in St Kilda Road; the works on paper gallery wasnamed the Robert Raynor Prints and Drawings Gallery in hishonour. In the 1980s Robert committed substantial financial donationsannually to the NGV to acquire works upgrade the Raynor Galleryand to support other gallery initiatives including paperconservation. ne of the benefits of this was the Prints andDrawings collection and the production of five catalogues coveringthe drawings of such masters as William Blake Rembrandt andAlbrecht Durer as well as Australian watercolours. As a result of his generous donations to the NGV Robert becamethe first honorary life benefactor of the Art Foundation ofVictoria benefactor of the Robert Raynor Publications in Printsand Drawings and of the Robert Raynor Art Foundation for thepurchase of exceptional paintings prints and sculptures. In 1984 he was awarded life membership of the NGV inrecognition of his outstanding and distinguished service to thegallery.

CMDave DiStefano is a fan of local arts in all its varied forms from painting and photography to music. in the Moxham section of Johnstown. DiStefano has rented the elegant space with exquisitely preserved hardwood floors woodwork crown moldings and stained glass since March and hopes to become a part of the growing Johnstown arts scene. The space which is part of the Village Street Shops is a former framing shop and belonged to a doctor in Moxham’s heyday. “There’s been a lack of opportunity for artists in Johnstown but it’s opening up with places in Kernville and Railroad Street” DiStefano said.
